Unexpectedly recycled.
Veronika Vilkas is a textile art studio inspired by sustainability and creative connection. Breathing life into what was left behind. Honoring the beauty in what others overlook. With every stitch, something discarded becomes deeply meaningful.
Creative Process
I start out with some freestyle writing, sketching, and pouring over my available materials in my studio. I make time to do those most days to see what happens. When picking what projects to pursue, I'll look back over my notes and sketches and pull the ones most interesting to me. Then I'll start experimenting with material combinations and see what feels right and piecing the works together. Editing usually comes in once I feel like I'm getting closer to the end of a project or if I feel that I've taken a wrong turn. Once the piece feels done, I'll let it rest for a day or two then take a finalizing look. If it's good, I'll take some photos and label it.
Notes on Bowser Amigurumi
I used a pattern by GretaWings to make this fanart, as well as a variety of yarns, including wool, silk, cotton, and linen. I made a few modifications to the pattern. For one, I cut pieces of dense needle-felted wool into shape to give his feet and spikes their distinctive shape. It's a technique I hope to use a lot more often, since it's lightweight but extremely sturdy and holds its shape beautifully.
